Editor,
Last week, a good friend of mine saw a fellow citizen walk carelessly on the green pasture that has been specifically planted in the middle of the road to beautify our city.
On seeing such an abominable act, he immediately, walked towards the culprit and demanded to know why he behaved this way knowing that such a practice is a crime.
After a long sequence of questions and answers, my friend realised that this person did not even posses identification and actually knew nothing about the Rwandan policies. We later decided to hand the offender over to police where his fate was later decided.
Unfortunately, when some people heard about this incident they, complained that it is not good to hand over any one just because they had committed such a simple crime.
I would like everybody to understand that the community should be involved in fighting such crimes. We can not let police solve all the crimes simply because we know that it is their work however, we should help them.
This is called "community policing” and every Rwandan should gladly partake this cause if at all we love our country and want the crime rate to go down.
