Azam Rwanda Premier League side have fired Justin Bisengimana their head coach following a poor run of results, the club announced on Friday.
Evaliste Ntamugabumwe, former assistant to Bisengimana, was immediately elevated as interim coach for the rest of the 2018/2019 season, which is left with five league games.
It is understood that, among other reasons, the coach was dismissed due to poor results and inciting players to protest over unpaid salary arrears. Saturday Sport understands that Sunrise players have gone four months without pay.
However, speaking to this publication in an exclusive telephone interview, the club’s vice president John Gihanuka said that both parties had amicably terminated the contract, and Sunrise wished the best Bisengimana in his future endeavours.
Sunrise were smashed 4-0 by Police FC on Wednesday. Bisengimana leaves the club in 9th position with 31 points after 25 matches.
He previously coached Etoile de l’Est and Sorwathe in second division before serving as assistant coach at Gicumbi and Police, in the topflight league.
