KAMPALA - Ugandan police are holding, Jean de Dieu Twagirimana aka. De Gaulle, a Rwandan national for allegedly forging documents he used to falsely get over Frw 22 million.

Twagirimana, 36, was arrested in Kasubi, a Kampala suburb and he is being detained at Central Police Station (CPS) in the Ugandan capital Kampala.

"He is willing to go back to Rwanda because he knows what he did. He has not denied the accusations against him,” a Police Officer who declined to be named said during an interview yesterday.

Speaking to The New Times on Monday, Moses Sakira, the head of Interpol Uganda, confirmed the development and said that the arrest was made following a request from Interpol in Rwanda in December last year.

Twagirimana reportedly fled to Uganda in December to escape justice after swindling the money.

Other reports indicate that on his arrival in Uganda, Twagirimana crossed into Southern Sudan, where he had been masquerading as a businessman.

"When we received information that he had crossed into Uganda, the police started looking for him. It is only on Sunday when we got information that he was staying in Kasubi and arrested him,” added Sakira.

Twagirimana is expected to be handed over to Rwandan police this week.
