The National Paralympic Committee (NPC) has heaped praise on Hermas Cliff Muvunyi after qualifying for this year’s World Para Athletics Championships due on November 7-15, in Dubai.

The 30-year- old earned his ticket to the world championships after striking bronze at the 2019 Meeting International de Marrakech, Morocco, on Thursday.

Muvunyi, a gold medalist at the 2013 Jeux de la Francophonie, struck the bronze medal clocking 51 seconds and three microseconds in the men’s 400m category. Morocco’s Sadni Ayoub (49"21) and Sadni Ayoub (49"21) won gold and silver medals, respectively.

It was the Paralympian’s first international competition since returning from his premature retirement, which he had announced in mid-2017, allegedly for ‘unfair treatment’ from NPC.

Speaking to Saturday Sport on Friday, Eric Karasira, the NCP Executive Secretary, praised the star athlete for his ‘fantastic performance’ in Morocco and tipped him to shine in Dubai come November.

"We, at NPC, have always believed in Hermas [Muvunyi], this was typical of his performances,” said Karasira, who also doubles as the runner’s coach.

"We are going to support him in his preparations as much as we can so he can even do better at the world championships.”
