Over 20 families of of survivors of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi inRutobotobo village Murama cell in Nyamata sector in Bugesera District will be able to follow news and related activities on around the globe after they received solar TV systems.

The 20 televisions were donated to them by Rwanda’s leading off-grid solar home systems provider as part of activities to commemorate the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

On the 18/04/2019, staff of Mobisol led by the company’s Managing Director Sylvia Kanimba, travelled to Bugesera District to pay tribute to over a million Tutsis that were killed during the 1994 genocide against the Tutsis. Before travelling to Rutobotobo village to visit the genocide survivors, Mobisol staffs who were accompanied by Nyamata sector and Bugesera district officials, and representatives of IBUKA, organization umbrella of genocide survivors visited Nyamata memorial center.

Before laying wreath at the memorial site, Leon Muberuka the representative of the National Commission for the Fight against Genocide (CNLG) at Nyamata memorial took them through the history of the horrors done to the Tutsi during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsis. During genocide, some Tutsi sought refuge in Nyamata Parish and locked themselves inside. Unfortunately, Interahamwe stormed the sacred house with guns, grenades and machetes to kill them.

Nyamata Genocide Memorial is one of Rwanda’s six National Genocide Memorial Sites.  It was desacralized by the Roman Catholic Church on 11th April 1997 and transformed into a memorial to the victims of the genocide. The memorial is located in what was originally Nyamata Parish. It houses victims’ clothes and their belongings while mass graves containing 45,308 genocide victims are situated behind the church. According to Muberuka the number of victims includes those who were killed inside the church, as well as others exhumed from surrounding areas.

Louis Rwagaju, the Head of Corporate, Partnerships and Relations at Mobisol Rwanda said that Mobisol chose to come here because Bugesera district is among the district’s that had more killings of Tutsi during the genocide. "Another reason we chose to come here is because Mobisol as a company started in Bugesera district and it is like a child here. We have a history here and we will always be part of the people here” said Rwagaju The genocide against the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi was planned way back and 1994 was the finals. The Tutsi had been hunted and killed since the 1950’s and into the 90’s.

"Like the theme unite remember, renew,  we as Rwandans have to fight the ideology to see that the genocide never happens again "Given that the majority of employees at Mobisol Rwanda are the youth, we have come to witness and draw measures of preventing re-occurrence.  We have learnt consequences of bad leadership that led to genocide and committed to advocate for peace, unity especially inside the company and elsewhere,” he noted.

He thanked the government for liberating the country.  "We wonder what would have happened had it not been the Ikotanyi that stopped the Genocide. There would be no Tutsi alive today to tell and give the testimonies that we have heard from the women today” he added.

The Executive Secretary of Nyamata sector, Innocent Mushenyi thanked Mobisol for remembering and donating to survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rutobotobo.
