AS Kigali 0-3 Scandinavia

Radjab Bizumuremyi has hailed his side’s fantastic performance after a 3-0 emphatic victory over AS Kigali in the women’s national football league on Monday.

Scandinavia handed the ten-time reigning champions their biggest defeat in eleven years to storm to the summit with a maximum 24 points from eight games. It was also AS Kigali’s first loss this term.

However, the main talk-point of the match remains that it was Scandinavia’s first win over AS Kigali since the club joined the national football league last season. The City of Kigali-sponsored side had won their last three meetings.

After a number of squandered chances from Scandinavia forwards, Jeanette Ukwinkunda finally broke the deadlock in the 37th minute to hand the visitors a 1-0 first-half lead, before Nadine Mukandayisenga scored in the 60th and 68th minute to complete the rout.

Speaking to Times Sport in a post-match interview, Bizumuremyi said that there was no special secret for the big victory, but hard work, noting that his ladies were upbeat to end their rivals’ dominance.

"There is no secret, but just to work hard. Winning this year’s league title is our main target, and the two fixtures between us and AS Kigali have a big say about it, that’s why we didn’t want to lose on Monday,” he said.

"My players were fantastic throughout the game, I hope we maintain the form and probably win the championship unbeaten. That is the challenge we are setting to keep us in check.”

Champions AS Kigali are second with 21 points, leading third-placed Rambura by four points.

"I have to say ‘congratulations!’ to Scandinavia, they were the better side in every aspect,” conceded AS Kigali coach Shaban Mbarushimana.

"We have to go back to the drawing board and prepare for the remainder of the season.”
