Vincent Dusabimana, the captain of Gisagara Volleyball Club, has fired an early warning to rivals that his side is keen on retaining the title of the Genocide Memorial Tournament.
This year’s Volleyball Genocide Memorial Tournament (GMT) takes place on June 1-2 in Kigali.
Two-time league champions Gisagara clinched last year’s GMT title after overpowering bitter rivals Rwanda Energy Group (REG) in straight sets in the final.
"GMT is one of the tournaments we take very seriously, and whose title means a lot to the club. We are going to do all that we can to retain it this year,” said the Rwanda international centre blocker.
The volleyball GMT is held annually in remembrance of over 50 members of the volleyball fraternity, who include players, coaches, and administrators, whose lives were cut short among the over one million others during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
Volleyball is one of the sports disciplined that were hugely devastated by the Genocide.
