Rwanda’s U-19 cricket team needs about Frw6m to travel to Mozambique for the first qualifiers of next year’s International Cricket Council U-19 World Cup.

According to RCA, the local cricket governing body, this amount is meant to cater for the team’s preparations and travel expenses among others.

The qualifiers, scheduled for February 27-7 March will weigh Rwanda with other affiliate countries likes Ghana, Sierra Leone, Swaziland, Gambia and hosts Mozambique.

The top two sides at the end of the event will progress to the final qualifiers of the 2010 U-19 World Cup in South Africa.

The 20-man provisional team, under the tutelage of Martin Ondeko, a renowned Ugandan cricketer has turned to daily non- residential training sessions at Kicukiro oval.

Speaking about the team’s quality, Ondeko said that he is quite impressed with a number of players before insisting that there is still a lot to be learnt.

"Some of the guys are good but there is still room for them to improve even more,” he said.

Should Rwanda jump the first hurdle in Mozambique, she will proceed to Zambia’s capital Lusaka to contest in the final qualifiers with some of Africa’s heavyweights like Nigeria, Botswana, Uganda, Tanzania, Ghana, Namibia and hosts Zambia among others.

The 2010 ICC U-19 World Cup will be held in Nairobi, Kenya.
