As the Bujumbura ITF Men’s Futures Circuit came to conclusion last evening now the focus on Kigali as the second event on the money circuit rolls into Kigali this weekend.

The event will be held at Umubano hotel courts starting on Thursday.
The Kigali circuit will cost about $6000 (approx. Frw3.36 millions) according Rwanda Tennis Federation who are the organizers of the event.

The leg will attract players from Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Tanzania and Zimbabwe battling for the staked $4500winners’ package.

The Kigali leg will be sponsored by the Rwanda tennis Federation in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports and Culture.

Rwanda’s top seed Gasigwa won the last edition of the prize money circuit which was held in Kigali.

Uganda’s top seed Duncan Mugabe won the Bujumbura leg yesterday.

Mugabe easily dispatched Zimbabwe star Martin Dzuwa 6-2 6-1 in straight sets to pocket the event’s cash prize of US$800. The 18-year-old is the first Ugandan player to be ranked by the ATP and stands at 942.

No Rwandan managed to reach the money-spilling stage as they all fell at the semi-finals stage .

Dieudonne Habiyambere was the first victim as he fell to Mugabe losing 1-6 1-6.

In the other semi-final, Rwanda’s top seed Jean Claude Gasigwa lost 2-6 5-7 1-7 to Dzuwa in a thrilling game.

In the ladies category, players played a round-bin and It was a Burundian affair as Siriyoli Roha defeated Santiana Irankunda 6-4 6-2 to walk away with winner’s cash prize in the finals.

In the semi-finals, Roha eliminated Rwanda’s Joseline Umulisa 6-2 6-2 while Irankunda saw off another Rwandan Mergan Ingabire 6-4 6-1.
