Rwanda National Police (RNP) has recalled Nyanza District Police Commander (DPC) Eugene Musonera amidst emerging reports linking him to crimes during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.
"The officer has been recalled at the HQ (headquarters) for further follow-up of the matter,” RNP spokesperson Boniface Rutikanga told The New Times on Tuesday, May 7.

Without divulging details, Philbert Gankwenzire, the President of Ibuka, the national umbrella organisation of genocide survivors’ associations, told The New Times that numerous witnesses have identified Musonera and implicated him in playing a role during the genocide in Nyanza, his district of birth.
