It will be a moment of truth when Rwanda's four middle distance runners vie for medals against the world’s best at the 2019 IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Denmark on Saturday.

Speaking to Saturday Sport in a telephone interview from Denmark on Friday, one of the athletes, Felicien Muhitira, said that him and his compatriots were in high spirits and raring to shine at the world’s biggest cross country event.

"We are going to be competing against the very best from the world over, and we are ready for the challenge. We will give it our best,” said Muhitira.

"We will either win, or learn so we can do better in future competitions.”

The team’s trainer Eric Karasira told this publication in a recent interview that he had faith in his athletes, but refrained from making what he called ‘premature promises’ on the prospects for medals.

Muhitira, 24, qualified for this year’s World Cross Country Championship last month after finishing third in the national championship.

At the one-day event, Rwanda is also represented by Noel Hitimana, Theophile Bigirimana and Christophe Tuyishime.
