It’s that time of the year when the entertainment world, especially music industry, gets hot with new fresh releases, theatre performances, musical shows and many other activities that keep people amused.

Since the month of May began, there has been alot of good news from local showbiz making headlines and The New Times picks some of the things that stayed at the center of conversations last week.

Prince Kiiiz leaves Country records

In February this year, news circulated that Prince Kiiiz, one of the producers signed with Country Records, had left the renowned studio to join Coach Gael’s 1:55am which is home to Rwanda’s big names such as Bruce Melodie, Kenny Sol and producer Element.

On Saturday, May 4, the producer took to social media to shed light on the rumour and revealed that his one-year contract with Country Records had come to an end but he did not claim to ink any deal with 1:55am as it was reported by many.

"It's been an incredible ride and I appreciate all the love and support. Exciting new things are on the horizon. Stay tuned," the producer wrote on Instagram.

The New Times understands that Prince Kiiiz plans to open his own studio which might open operations soon.

Aurore Kayibanda, Gatera to wed in Kigali

Last week, Miss Rwanda 2012 Aurore Mutesi Kayibanda and golfer Jacques Gatera made headlines again in local showbiz after announcing dates for their Kigali wedding.

This comes months after the two were legally hitched in a colorful ceremony that took place in Phoenix, Arizona, on February 22.

According to a post by Kayibanda on Instagram, the celebrity couple will tie the knot on August 15, in Kigali, Rwanda, and the official invitation to the ceremony will be released soon.

The couple's love affair went viral on January, 19, 2023, after pictures of their engagement started circulating on social media.

Kinyatrap goes to Paris

Kinyatrap, a rap movement and sub-genre produced by the young generation of Rwanda’s music industry, will soon debut in theaters and music stages of France.

This is after the pioneers of the movement, Bushali, B-Threy, and Dr. Nganji were announced as headliners of three events slated for May 16-18, in Paris.

Hosted by Pan African Music (PAM) at Theatre Chaillot, the event promises an experience into Rwanda's vibrant rap scene. The trio will feature in live performances, a documentary screening, and a photo exhibition, offering audiences a glimpse into the essence of Kinyatrap.

Kivumbi King to drop second Album

After blessing fans with a number of hit songs such as Wait and Angel & Demon, Kivumbi King, aka Cyacyana, has announced the release date of his next album dubbed Ganza.

The album, according to Kivumbi, will premiere on May 17, and its more than just an album, but a profound declaration of arrival and achievement.

"In this transformative collection of tracks, each lyric and melody reflect two years of hard work. Can’t wait to share it with you all,” the artiste wrote in Instagram.

Ganza will follow a number of successful EPs and Kivumbi’s maiden album ‘DID’ which had heavy hit songs including Nakumena Amaso and many others.

Kenny Sol, wife welcomes first born

Kenny Sol and his wife on May 2, welcomed a baby boy who is also the couples’ first born since they tied the knot on January 5.

This comes a few days after the artiste dropped a song titled '2 in 1' which was dedicated to his son and wife.

Filmmaker Eric Kabera bags Lifetime Achievement Award

Renowned Rwandan filmmaker, Eric Kabera, lasty week won a Lifetime Achievement Award at Afrika Film Festival in Leuven, Belgium, for the body of work he produced about the Genocide against the Tutsi over the past 30 years, as well as training the young generation of story tellers of Rwanda.

Kabera, also founder of Kwetu films, becomes the first Rwandan film maker to win a lifetime achievement award, thanks to some of his biggest cinema works like 'Intore', The Woman in Me, 100 Days and many others.
