Rwanda’s female pop duo, Charly na Nina are in final preparations and look forward to giving a thrilling performance to comedy lovers, come March 30. This will be their first time to perform at the SekaFest show, since its inception last year.

The week-long event is organised by local comedian Arthur Nkusi’s company, Arthur Nation. It will be graced by some of the best comedians in the region and on the continent.

The duo confirmed their performance in a phone interview with The New Times this week. Also on the lineup are Ugandan artiste Douglas Mayanja, aka Weasel, and home boy Sintex.

The SekaFest 2019 will feature Africa’s famous comedians like Googly-eyed Nigerian funnyman Basketmouth, Kenya’s Eric Omondi, and Salvador as well as Alex Muhangi—both from Uganda. The show will also feature a host of talented local comedians, including Arthur Nkusi, who doubles as the host of the festival. 

Charly, real name Charlotte Rulinda, and Nina, born Fatuma Muhoza, are known for several hits, including Uburyohe and Try Me, among others.

Their performance is scheduled for March 30, at Gikondo Expo Grounds, and it will be hosted by Ugandan standup comedian Alex Muhangi.

Entrance fee is Rwf5000 (regular), and Rwf10.000 (VIP). Gates open 4pm.

"We’re sure that we won’t disappoint our fans. We have many plans for them this year, and this SekaFest performance is a snippet of what we have in store for them,” said Nina.

The two artistes; Charly and Nina have a unique sense of identity that makes them stand out on the local music scene. The diversity in the different acts has brought a spiced flavour that Rwandan music lovers and listeners can identify with.

Sintex, on the other hand, is an upcoming Afro-dancehall artiste. Born Arnold Kabera, the singer is a young brother to comedian and radio personality Arthur Nkusi. His songs include Ndabyimenyera, Let’s talk about love, Why, and Ndabyimenyera. His latest single Super Star is an authentic Rwandan sound fused with a little bit of trap, to give it a more hyped feeling and vibe.

He says he owes a lot to his fans, and everyone, who puts his work out there in one way or another. Sintex promises SekaFest lovers a great performance.

"This year, my performance will be bigger and better. The audience will definitely be entertained by my fellow musicians, and the talented comedians,” said Sintex.

SekaFest originally evolved out of Seka Live Comedy, a comedy series that was initiated in March 2016. Both events were the makings of Nkusi.

Like the previous edition, the SekaFest 2019 will feature a bus comedy show on March 25-29, and the climax on March 31.
