Perfect Weekend….Collin Sekajugo

Collin Sekajugo.

After traveling to more than 15 countries on the African continent as Rwanda’s representative for artistic study tours, exhibitions, and international workshops, Sekajugo felt the urge to turn his skills and inspiration to a more practical and broader project, one that would nurture the talent of Rwanda’s young talented artists, and launch Rwandan contemporary art to global heights.

That way, the 28-year-old founded Ivuka Arts Studios, a joint studio for local artists specializing in different media of arts, and ‘RwaMakondera’, local children’s dancing troupe both situated in Kigali.

Below he runs us through what constitutes his perfect weekend:

My perfect weekend is one where I have enough time to relax. I love visiting museums and art studios. Whenever I have time for myself, I drive across town and visit art shops, or even walk around the city…viewing the beautiful sculpture, for instance the ones around the roundabouts.

My weekends normally begin on Fridays, at around 7p.m. I leave the studio, go home, and have a shower. Then I hook up with my friends for a drink. I usually retire for bed at 1a.m.

Once in a while I escape the town to either Butare, Gisenyi or Ruhengeri. I love Ruhengeri mostly because of its beautiful atmosphere, landscape and sceneries. But above all, I love the place because of its adorable tourism attractions (gorillas and birds).

The area is generally wonderful! In fact, one can clearly view the country’s neighboring countries, the likes of DR Congo and Uganda.

Surprisingly, I’m not a big fanatic of nightclubs, because I hardly squeeze enough time to happen. But I love listening to music whenever I happen to fix time.

Unfortunately, as lovers worldwide wait eagerly for the Valentine’s Day, only six days ahead, I will be at my house, because I’m lonely man. But before I completely lose hope, let me anticipate that God will have found my rib at the time.
