Today we report on President Paul Kagame, being awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws Degree by a Florida State University (FSU).

The degree is in recognition of his steadfast commitment, to peaceful reconciliation, education and the economic development of Rwanda. However, the President was quick to point out that the degree was a collective achievement with the people of Rwanda.

"Education has been very central to all we have been doing and many things that have brought the society back together and kept it moving forward,” said Kagame while receiving the degree.

The good work of the people of Rwanda shines out for all to see. We again report on the Auditor General, Evelyn Kamagaju Rutagwenda, who has scooped the 2008 Global Commendation Award for Africa and the Middle East.

Rutagwenda who receives the award today, at the Kigali Serena Hotel, has championed the cause of developing chartered accountancy in the country.

Among her achievements to which she was credited is the establishment of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) training.

Education is key to development, making the investment made by the country’s leadership in the education sector, crucial for the future prosperity of the country.

This also makes the plans by the FSU, to establish a sister university here in Rwanda even more crucial.

This will indeed further strengthen ties between the Rwanda and FSU, while students from the USA can also benefit from studying in Rwanda.
