The Hoops Rwanda will be looking for rare victory over APR when the league sides go head-to-head in the final of the 2019 International Women’s Day basketball tournament on March 10.
The second edition of the annual tournament started on March 3 with a series of matches in different categories namely; the semi-professional level, the youth category, and the veterans.
In the semi-professional category, which features the national league teams, The Hoops Rwanda advanced to the final after edging holders IPRC-South 72-59, while APR landed free passage to the final after their semi-final rivals Ubumwe failed to show up at Amahoro Stadium for the game.
In the youth category, which features secondary schools, GS Marie Reine beat Lycee Notre Dame de Citeaux 79-41 and Gashora Girls School 68-53 to reach the final. They will be up against GS Kamonyi, who brushed aside AGEGI Gituza and ENDP Karubanda in the group stage.
In the veterans category, Shooting Touch overcame Ferwaba 43-39 to set up finals date with Rwanda Energy Group, who saw off RSSB in a comfortable 71-38 victory.
Huye-based IPRC-South won last year’s title of the tournament’s inaugural edition after beating APR 92-83 in the final at Amahoro Stadium.
