Benin had fronted its Stade de l’Amitie in Cotonou to host the World Cup qualifier tie against Rwanda, but the venue was rejected by CAF.

Lesotho's Setsoto Stadium also suffered a similar fate as it was not approved by CAF because it did not meet the required standards.

The last time Rwanda played an away game on a neutral ground was on June 2, 2022 when they drew 1-1 with Mozambique in a 2023 AFCON qualifier at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

Rwanda is on top of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers Africa Zone Group B with four points.
