Police FC is ready to stick with head coach Vincent Mashami and his coaching staff next season after guiding the club to the double, Inspector General of Police Félix Namuhoranye has confirmed.
Mashami helped Police beat Bugesera FC 2-1 in the final held at Kigali Pele Stadium on May 1, to lift the 2023/24 Peace Cup trophy their first since 2015.
It was the second major trophy that the law enforcers won this season after winning the Heroes Cup in February.
Namuhoranye was satisfied with Mashami’s performance, which he rated at 75 per cent this season, and expressed his desire to have the coach and his staff on the Police FC touchline next season.
"We tasked them [the coaches] to achieve three [trophies], they achieved two. I want to assure you that...if they want to continue with us, I am absolutely with them. I hope there is no more debate,” the Police Chief said during the Peace Cup celebration ceremony held at National Police headquarters in Kacyiru.
"You've delivered 75% of what we asked, a fantastic score. That shows your camaraderie, your teamwork, your spirit,” he added.
Mashami’s future now lies in his own hands and, should he consider staying at Police FC, he will coach the team at the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup.
"Our focus now lies on building upon what we have," noted Namuhoranye. "With the team competing in continental competitions, unnecessary changes are the last thing we need.
