Special Olympics athletes have intensified preparations ahead of the 2019 Special Olympics World Games, which are scheduled for March 14-21 in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates.
The twenty-six athletes have been in boot camp for residential training since February 17 and will be concluding on March 5 before departing for UAE on March 8 for the world games.
"Training sessions for football, Bocce, and athletics take place every morning at Amahoro stadium, while in the evening they train at Utexrwa grounds. Swimmers practice at La Palisse Hotel Nyandungu,” the head of Special Olympics Rwanda, Sheila Ndengeya, told Times Sport on Monday.
The Special Olympics World Games are a multi-sport event for athletes with intellectual disabilities in the tradition Olympics movement.
Around 7,000 athletes from over 170 countries will compete in a range of sports, with the focus being to empower people with intellectual disabilities through the tool of sport.
