Rwanda Tea has injected over Rwf61 million into 2019 Tour du Rwanda in an effort to popularise one of Rwanda’s leading cash crops and a major export. Tour du Rwanda started yesterday.
The brand injected Rwf 61,314,000 in the event whereby Rwanda Tea Association contributed 39 per cent and the Government 61 per cent.
National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB), director general George William Kayonga, affirmed that the good partnership between FERWACY and Rwanda Tea is very essential to take the beverage’s consumption and popularity at another level.
"This partnership will benefit all the participants whereby apart from the cycling competition, the participants will have an opportunity to taste and enjoy the Remarkable Rwanda Tea, experience our touristic attractions and tea plantations on the hillsides given the itinerary of the competition,” Kayonga said.
Officials from the award-winning tea brand say that they chose to sponsor the competition because they value the importance of sports, especially cycling. In this regard, the brand chose to reward the best combative rider of each stage.
Rwanda Tea was launched in 2017.
In the first semester of year 2018-2019, Rwanda Tea exports increased by 7 per cent compared to first semester 2017-2018. The brand attributed the increase in exports to its brand promotion efforts.
