Rwanda’s U-19 cricket team has stepped up training ahead of the penultimate 2010 International Cricket Council U-19 World Cup qualifiers in Mozambique.

With less than three weeks to the qualifiers, the 18-man provisional team under the tutelage of Martin Ondeko, a renowned Ugandan cricketer has now turned to daily non- residential training sessions at Kicukiro.

"Because we have little time left, we have resolved to daily training sessions. Ondeko needs enough time to get the best out of the team,” Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA)’s Emmanuel Byiringiro said.

On top of hosts Mozambique, Rwanda will also square up with the likes of Sierra Leone, Ghana, Swaziland and Gambia. At the end of the five-day tournament, the top two teams will qualify for the final qualifiers due in South Africa.

Should Rwanda jump the first hurdle in Mozambique, she will contest with Africa’s heavyweights like South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Kenya, Uganda and Zambia among others.

The 18-man provisional will be trimmed down to 14. The penultimate qualifiers in Mozambique are slated for February 27-March 7.

The ICC U-19 World Cup is set for 2010 in Nairobi, Kenya.
