The Ministry of Education yesterday released results for Advanced Level candidates of the 2017-18 academic year where, with a slight drop in the number of candidates who passed the exams.

The New Times caught up with the best performers in different combinations to share the secret behind their success as well as their future plans.

Among them is Soumayya Bint Outhman, from Gashora Girls Academy of Science and Technology, who emerged as the best girl candidate in sciences and fourth in the whole country.

She has already secured admission to study bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States of America.

"I got my admission in December. I was really happy about that because that was my dream school. When I applied I did not hope to get it. Yes, I was smart and people trusted me but I didn’t think it was that easy,” she said.

Outhman scored A in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

"It is not a surprise for a girl to be one of the best in sciences because girls go to school too, and so we are supposed to perform well. If our parents trust us to take us to school and the Government allowed us to study, we should perform well,” she said.
