The Speaker of the Burkina Faso National Assembly, Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, and a delegation of five MPs, are in the country to pay a courtesy visit to the Rwandan Parliament.

They arrived in the country yesterday on an invitation of the Rwandan Parliament and the team is expected to leave on Saturday after holding talks with several government officials and fellow MPs.

"His visit to Rwanda is aimed at strengthening the partnership between the two parliaments and exchanging views on how we can improve our relations,” said the Deputy Speaker in charge of finance and administration, Jean Damascene Ntawukuriryayo in a phone interview.

He added that the previous Speaker, Alfred Mukezamfura, had visited the Burkina Faso parliament and that Kaboré’s visit, adds more value to the existing relations between lawmakers in both countries.

Kaboré, a leading political figure in Burkina Faso, is a former Prime Minister who also headed several key ministries before winning the parliamentary elections to head the House. He is also the president of the Congress for Democracy and Progress (CDP) the country’s ruling party.

Members of the Lower Chamber of Deputies, will return from their festive season recess today to resume their duties of the second term after a two-month break.

Kaboré is expected to attend sessions of the House which are presided over by Speaker Rose Mukantabana.

According to Ntawukuriryayo bills awaiting the MPs include those seeking the amendment of several laws like the laws governing Rwanda National Police, Prisons, and Rwanda Revenue Authority others.
