The national athletics federation (RAF), yesterday, set February 16 as the date for the annual national athletics competition. The event, which will include different disciplines, is set to be held at Amahoro national stadium.

"The main purpose of organising this event is to select the best athletes who will represent Rwanda at the World Athletics champions scheduled in Qatar from September 27 to October 6, 2019,” a statement from RAF reads in part.

The competition will involve both male and female athletes above 18 years of age who will compete in 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1,500m, 5,000m and 10,000m categories.

Those aged between 16-17 years will also be allowed to participate in the different long distance category races that include 5,000 and 10,000 metres.

Registration for all the events is ongoing at the RAF headquarters in Remera.
