Dominique Savio Nshuti scored the lone goal against his former club as APR beat Rayon Sports 1-0 to clinch this year’s Heroes Cup title at Amahoro Stadium on Friday night.

The 22-year old was left unmarked inside the box to slot home with a grandstand finish in the 29th minute after an amazing run from the right flank by Issa Bigirimana.

Rayon Sports had several clear-cut chances to cancel out APR’s lead through Ghana-born striker Micheal Sarpong (43rd & 46th minute) and Gilbert Mugisha (78th & 80th minute), but all their efforts were thwarted by goalkeeper Yves Kimenyi.

The military side, who won two of their three matches, dethroned Rayon Sports as winners of the tournament’s 2019 edition with six points, one ahead of first runners-up AS Kigali who won once and recorded two draws.

Rayon, with four points, and Etincelles – who only managed one point – finished in third and fourth position, respectively.

Bigirimana, the main threat for Rayon Sports defenders on the night, almost doubled the lead for Jimmy Mulisa’s side but his strike hit the framework in the 65th minute.

APR pocketed Rwf4 million in cash prize, twice the cash prize for first runners-up AS Kigali. Second runners-up Rayon and bottom side Etincelles walked away with Rwf1.5 million and Rwf1 million, respectively.

Meanwhile, giants AS Kigali beat Scandinavia 4-3 on penalties to lift the title in women’s category following the two sides’ 1-all draw at Kigali Stadium on Thursday.
