I read a good article on "The Tragedy of Humanitarianism” by Gloria I. Anyango in your 1716 issue. I am responding from about 8,000 miles away in Oakland, California (USA).

I read the online edition of The New Times from time to time and have visited Rwanda before.

I believe that the action taken by the Rwandans and Congolese to flush out Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) rebels now should have been also taken in 1994.

If the United States had intervened in April 1994 with a paratrooper drop, we could have reduced the Genocide against the Tutsi by 80-90 percent.

I apologise for my government’s slow action.
