UNDER FIRE AT HOME: Ladan Bosso.

Nigeria’s U-20 coach Ladan Bosso hailed the standard of competition displayed at the 16th African Youth Championship, Rwanda 2009.

After guiding The Flying Eagles to third place, Bosso applauded the level of the competition and encouraged the Confederation of African Football (Caf) to maintain this level in bid to elevate African Football standards.

"The organisation of this year’s event was good in general and the level of competition was very high too. Its good for African football,” Bosso said.

The Flying Eagles claimed bronze with a 2-1 victory over the Amajita of South Africa in their third place play-off match. After beating the tournament favorites in their earlier meeting, the Amajita were expected to replicate a similar feat, but erratic shooting in front of goal robbed them of a similar feat.

This is the Flying Eagles’ third bronze at the biennial championships after 1981 and 1995.
