APR right-back Fitina Ombalenga has left the club and country ahead of his reported two-year move to CSKA Sofia in Bulgaria Premier League.
The 22-year old departed Kigali on Tuesday evening and is expected to be offered a two-year contract by the Bulgarian army side on Thursday, with both parties open to a possible extension.
"Playing professional football has always been my dream,” Ombolenga said before his take-off at Kigali International Airport, before adding that he is going to work hard, try to enjoy football with his new teammates, and strive to improve the level of his game.
The former SC Kiyovu full-back previously had a cameo stint in Europe with Slovakia’s third division league side MFK Topvar Topoľčany during the 2016/2017 season before returning in the country to join local heavyweights APR in a controversial move.
The celebrated defender received his maiden Amavubi call-up in 2013 and has since made 22 appearances – and scored once – for the national team.
