This year’s Afro-basket Men’s championship will be staged in Libya, Times Sport has learnt. The biannual competition, also the most coveted basketball tournament in Africa is scheduled for August 5-15.
Like in the past, 16 teams are expected to grace the event. These teams include the host nation, the top four sides at the 2007 Afro-basket competition which was held in Angola and the top sides at this year’s Zonal basketball competitions.
Meanwhile, should Rwanda’s women basketball side excel at this year’s Africa Zone-5 basketball championship set for this month in Kigali, then they will proceed to Madagascar for the 2009 FIBA Africa Championship for Women (Afrobasket).
The Championship will be played in September although the exact dates are yet to be confirmed.
