Gitego hits brace for Leopards, Kagame scores for Oldham

Rwandan players abroad recorded impressive performances over the weekend as the season in the majority of their respective countries nears conclusion.

Striker Arthur Gitego netted a double for AFC Leopards while teenager Collins Kagame found the back of the net for Oldham U18. Quentin Rushenguziminega was also on the target for FC Echallens in Saturday’s 10-goal thriller.

Elsewhere, Djihad Bizimana, Ange Mutsinzi, Abdul Rwatubyaye and Hakim Sahabo were among Amavubi senior players who had impressive outings in their respective clubs.

England

Collins Kagame scored the third goal for Oldham Athletics U18 who thrashed Shrewsbury U18 3-0 in the last game of the Youth Alliance League for 2023/24. Kagame finished the season with 9 goals.

Sweden

It was a tale of three Rwandans in the Swedish Superettan League as Gefle IF drew 2-2 with Sandviken at the Gavlevallen Stadium on Saturday, April 27. Rafael York started for Gefle and lasted 70 minutes before being replaced by Sebastian Friman. Yannick Mukunzi also came into the game in the 76th minute for Sandviken two-goal hero James Kirby. However, forward Lague Byiringiro watched the entire game from the bench as an unused substitute.

In the Ettan Norra League, Torre Rafael replaced Ibrahim Habib in the 88th minute as his side Orebro Syrianska drew 2-2 with AFC Eskilstuna.

Norway

Claus Niyukuri was replaced in the 65th minute for Oliver Krusnell as his side Haugesund lost 2-1 to Molde FK on Sunday, April 28, in the Eliteserien.

In the same division, Beltran Nishimwe played 59 minutes for Sandefjord who lost 1-0 to Fredikstad while Emmanuel Baru Gisa was not in the Fram Larvik squad which drew goalless with Vindbjart.

Also, goalkeeper Clement Twizere Buhake was between the posts for Ull/Kiss who held Grorud to a 1-1 draw.

Central defender Ange Mutsinzi was a pillar at the back for Jerv and played full throttle as they easily dispatched Sotra SK 2-0 in match day 4 of the Norwegian third tier league.

Netherlands

Noam Emeran is still struggling for playing time at promotion chasing FC Groningen as he remained an unused substitute in their 1-1 draw with Willem II in the Dutch Eredivisie League.

Belgium

Youngster Hakim Sahabo played 90 minutes for Standard Liege who drew 1-1 with Sint Truiden. Liege have now recorded five draws in their last five games they have played in the playoffs.

Defensive midfielder Samuel Gueulette is serving suspension for accumulated yellow cards and did not feature as his team, Raal La Louviere, who have already qualified to the Belgian second tier league lost 1-0 to Sporting Charleroi in the local derby.

France

Warren Kamanzi was not part of Toulouse FC team that beat Lorient 2-1 at Stade du Moustoir on Sunday, April 28.

Centre back Brian Ngwabije failed to make the Andrezieux match day squad as they defeated Bourgoin-Jallieu 2-1 in the CFA.

Switzerland

Skipper Quentin Rushenguziminega scored his 18th goal of the season on Sunday April 28, as his side FC Echallens defeated US Terre Sainte 6-4 in a 10-goal thriller in the Swiss Classica Liga.

Ukraine

Amavubi captain Djihad Bizimana was again impressive after helping Kryvbas thrash Metalist 1925 Kharkiv 3-0 at the Shakhty Zhovtneva Stadium on Sunday, April 28.

In the Ukrainian second tier league, winger George Lewis Ishimwe came into the game in the 73rd minute as his club PFC Zvyahel, who are second on the table, drew 1-1 with Druzhba.

Macedonia

Centre back Abdul Rwatubyaye was exceptional in the heart of defense for FC Shkupi who beat Tikves 3-2 on Sunday, April 28.

Latvia

Centre back Dylan Maes was resolute at the back for FS Jelgava who beat Grobinas/LFS 2-1.

South Africa

Fiacre Ntwari is expected to be in the post for TS Galaxy when they face Mamelodi Sundowns in the DSTV Premier League on Monday, April 29.

Morocco

Left-back Emmanuel Imanishimwe played full duration for league leaders AS FAR Rabat who lost 2-1 to HUSA in a game that was marred by questionable referee decisions. FAR Rabat have reported the referee to the Moroccan Federation.

Kenya

Arthur Gitego hit a brace for AFC Leopards before being substituted in the 93rd minute as they defeated Compel FC 3-1.

Tunisia

Holding midfielder Bonheur Mugisha had a superb game as he proved to be the engine of AS Marsa who beat US Tataouine 3-1 in the Tunisian Ligue 1.

Tanzania

Veteran striker Meddie Kagere may get some minutes on Tuesday, April 30, when Namungo FC welcome his former club Simba SC.
