RAYON SPORTS attacking midfielder Kevin Muhire has signed a three-year deal with Egyptian Premier League side Misr Lel-Makkasa SC.
The 20-year-old left the country for Egypt in November last year for professional trials which he subsequently passed.
Muhire confirmed the development in an exclusive telephone interview with Times Sport.
"I have already played some friendly games with my new club,” he said. "I am so excited because I have started my professional career, it’s a dream come true. Hopefully this is just the beginning.”
Muhire joined Rayon Sports in 2015 – at the age of 17 – and has since helped the Blues to win the 2016 Peace Cup and the 2016/2017 league title.
He was also instrumental in the eight-time champions’ strong run on the continent last season when they made history by becoming the first Rwandan club to reach the round of last eight in CAF Confederation Cup.
Last October, the former Isonga FC forward was voted as Rayon Sports’ Player of the Year and Azam Rwanda Premier League’s Youngster of the Year, while he was named on the Team of the Year.
Muhire’s former teammate at Rayon Sports, centre back Abdoul Rwatubyaye on Thursday last week left the country to Macedonia for Pro move to club FK Shkupi FC. The defender is now understood to be playing in warm-up games as he waits to sign a contract.
Meanwhile, another Rayon Sports star Yannick Mukunzi is set to join Swedish third division league side Sandvikens IF on Wednesday.
