Sylvester Mbanza, the head coach of newly formed UTB women’s volleyball club, has emphasised that his side are not joining the championship to make numbers but rather to challenge for the title.

The 2019 season for the national women’s volleyball league starts on January 19.

Mbanza, formerly head coach of the UTB men’s team, has said that they have signed a blend of experienced and young players, and started preparations early in order to be ready in time and are in good shape for the upcoming season.

"We are not joining the league to just participate, the goal is to challenge for the league title. We have signed good players with the right attitude, and that’s the most important thing,” said Mbanza.

The Kicukiro-based varsity side were admitted into the league last November,

"Our players are not new in the championship, we have the necessary experience any top team may need to win the title.”

"Some of my players have won the league with different teams before,” he further noted.

Among others, UTB have signed some of the household names such as; Belise Dusabe, Louise Muhoza, Yvette Igihozo, Charlotte Nzayisenga and Benitha Mukandayisenga.
