Espoir 0-1 APR
Police 2-2 AS Kigali
After leading APR to their 10th victory in the last 13 games, head coach Jimmy Mulisa has challenged his players to win the last two games to end the league’s first-half on a high.
Former AS Kigali and Police midfielder, Imran Nshimiyimana, scored the lone goal in the 18th minute as the champions beat Espoir 1-0 at Rusizi Stadium on Friday.
The three points sent APR six points clear at the top of the Azam Rwanda Premier League.
The record 17-time champions have 32 points from 13 matches, with second-placed Mukura on 26 and three games in hand.
Speaking to Sunday Sport, former Rwanda international Mulisa said that it is very important for the military side to remain on track in the title chase and it has to start with winning consistency.
"After winning 10 games, that grants us passage to remain at the top of the table, we are now turning our focus on winning more games ahead of us,” he noted.
Mulisa added, "We have a chance of completing the season’s first-half in good standing and even take this momentum into the remainder of the season.”
Having scored 20 goals, and only conceded four times, APR have the best attack and the second-best defence in topflight league this term, only behind Mukura who have taken in three goals.
"We are delighted that we in the end managed to win the game against Espoir despite not playing to our best. But overall, my players did well.”
In another league match played on Friday, AS Kigali and Police shared 2-all spoils at Kigali Stadium. Jean Claude Ndarusanze and Kevin Ishimwe scored for AS Kigali while Dominique Ndayishimiye netted a double to salvage a point for Albert Joel Mphande’s side.
Meanwhile, league action continues on Sunday with Bugesera hosting Musanze at Nyamata Grounds while Rayon Sports will be up against Kirehe at Kigali Stadium.
