The foodstuffs donated were worth US$2000 (Rwf1.1 million) and included among others maize flour, sugar, and rice.
According to Ayew, the son of African football legend Abedi Pele, the donation was not much but, ‘can bring happiness to the children’s faces.’

He added: "The ongoing tournament offered me a chance to offer my little help, depending on my ability, having known the past tragedy in Rwanda.”
He urged fellow professional footballers to help with whatever they can since there are many orphanages around. "We cannot help everyone but at least let’s consider the little ones.”
The Orphanage Director, Damas Gisimba, commended Ayew for his love and spirit towards children at his youthful age.
"Imagine giving some of your little earnings to people you don’t know?” he questioned, adding, "Such acts give the orphans hope to life.”
The orphanage which is located in Nyamirambo a Kigali suburb is home to 184 children, whose parents died from HIV.
Ayew urged the youth to work hard to develop their talents if they are to become successful in life.
Before making a courtesy visit to the orphans, Ayew also visited Gisozi Memorial Centre with his mother, where they laid wreaths to victims of the 1994 Genocide.
The French-born Ayew promised to come back someday during his holiday because of the of the Rwandan scenery and environment had left him with a lasting impression.
The teenage prodigy was in the country with fellow players for the African Youth Championship (AYC) U-20, which they won yesterday after beating Cameroun 2-0 in the finals.
