Yesterday, Rwanda marked the 15th Heroes Day celebrations at Amahoro National Stadium. Thousands thronged the Stadium to hear their leadership speak on this important day. They remembered and celebrated the sacrifices made by those who lost their lives in the liberation process and those who survived. Speaking during the celebrations, President Paul Kagame, urged Rwandan’s to work hard in emulation of the heroes who lost their lives for the country’s liberation.

They remembered and celebrated the sacrifices made by those who lost their lives in the liberation process and those who survived.
Speaking during the celebrations, President Paul Kagame, urged Rwandan’s to work hard in emulation of the heroes who lost their lives for the country’s liberation.
He cautioned us to remember where we are coming from and where we are going as a nation. Indeed that blood spilt, and the sacrifices made in search of freedom, have not been in vain.
The leadership that has steered national politics over the past 15 years, has done so with the resolve and discipline whose results are everywhere for us to see.
The struggles fought were not in vain and they have not been sacrificed on the altar of greed, conceit and laziness. Rwanda is recording tremendous achievements in all aspects of life.
President Kagame is revered as a leader who is true to his word in offering the country leadership towards a fresh path of peace, stability and prosperity.
His leadership has nurtured a fresh brand of leaders and a Nation that plays an active role in national, regional and global politics. Rwanda is no longer the sorrowful face, of divisionism, ethnicity or Genocide.
Consequently, just when the President, was honouring our fallen heroes, another development was taking place at the African Union Heads of State Summit, in Ethiopia. Domitilla Mukantaganzwa, the Executive Secretary of the Gacaca courts, was one of the seven eminent persons appointed to be in charge of monitoring governance in Africa, under the New Economic Partnership Agreement for Africa’s (NEPAD), Peer Review Mechanism. This is an acknowledgement of the country’s good standing on the continent.
Last week we reported on the Presidential envoy to the Great Lakes Region, Joseph Mutaboba’s appointment, as UN Secretary General’s Ban Ki Moon Special Representative to Guinea Bissau.
And so as we celebrate Heroes Day once again, we know those sacrifices were not in vain, Rwanda takes her place in the region and on the globe.
