Bugesera 0-1 Amagaju

Following Amagaju’s 1-0 away win over Bugesera at Nyamata grounds on Monday, their head coach, Jean Paul Muhoza, has admitted that staying in the topflight football league beyond the current campaign is his team’s number one priority.

The South Province-based side are currently bottom of the 16-team league table with 11 points having won three games, drawn twice and lost eight games, respectively.

The Nyamagabe District-sponsored team recorded a rare away win on Monday, thanks to the lone goal from Tresor Ndukumana in the 39th minute. The game was initially supposed to be played on Sunday but it was postponed due to heavy rains.

In their next league fixture, Amagaju host fourth-placed SC Kiyovu on Saturday at Nyagisenyi Stadium.

In a post-match interview, Muhoza said: "Our main objective is to remain in the topflight league beyond this season, and if we keep the level we displayed today, I am confident we will.”

"The competition is very tight, all teams have notably improved, especially average teams. We have to stay focused and make sure we get as many points as possible,” Muhoza noted.

The former Pepiniere coach further added: "We have conceded a lot of goals and that’s something we have got to work on. We can do much better and everyone knows.”

Amagaju are at the bottom tied on 11 points with Kirehe and Musanze, who are in 14th and 15th positions, respectively. Muhoza’s side have an inferior goal differential (10) compared to Kirehe (9) and Musanze’s nine.

Meanwhile, Azam Rwanda Premier League action continues Friday when defending champions and leaders APR visit Espoir at Kamarampaka Stadium, while Police will take on AS Kigali at Kicukiro Stadium.
