As Christma sand New Year festivities draw closer, the Kigali City Authority has issued an outline of celebrations lined up around the city.

Under the Kigali Vibrant City Initiative launched this week, the Vice Mayor Parfait Busabizwa, said that during this festive season, city authorities aim to facilitate event organisers and encourage better service delivery.

Some of the events underlined by Busabwiza include; Christmas Carols Concert 2018 by Choral de Kigali at Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village (Camp Kigali – Akagera Hall) on the 23rd December, Christmas Cantata organized by Christian Life Assembly (from 21 to 24 December) and East African Party, 11th Edition to be held on Amahoro Stadium parking yard on the 1st January 2019.

Other events include; Celebrities Christmas Party at the Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village on December, 25th; 2nd Edition of Silent Disco Festival at Fuchsia bar located at KG 176st in Remera, on Christmas day, among others.

Busabwiza also mentioned that unlike what has been happening in recent years where fireworks ushering in the New Year have been displayed at the Kigali Convention Centre, this time the city of Kigali plans to have fireworks in various parts of the city.

Sunday Timesunderstands that city authorities wrote letters to the private sector requesting for fireworks sponsorship worth Rwf25 million for three places, namely, Mt. Kigali, Rebero and Bumbogo.

The plan, the Vice Mayor said, is to give different residents of the city fireworks experience during the New Year’s countdown.

Rwanda National Police was also quick to urge partygoers that while it’s good to enjoy the festive celebrations, they must do so safely and free of any harm.

The National Police spokesperson Jean Bosco Kabera, told journalists, during a press conference held at the City Hall that, several events being organised across the country during this festive season have secured the appropriate license, while others are in the process of securing them.

"There are many reasons to celebrate this festive season, but we appeal to everyone to abide by the relevant laws and regulations,” Kabera said.

He urged pubs and bar owners not to serve alcohol to minors and to people who are already inebriated.

"Be part of the good cause of keeping our communities safe. Let’s work together to protect our children and future customers,” Kabera added.

"As always, RNP officers will be available for any questions or clarifications. They are prepared to serve you, so feel free to engage anyone of them at any place or time,” Kabera said, adding, security organs are ready to ensure the security & safety for all during the festive season.

He also said that there may be traffic diversion around the city, appealing to the public to bear with the inconvenience.
