The 2018 PKF Golf Championship came to a climax on Saturday, with Alice Rwigema retaining the women’s title won, while Chris Dews claimed the men’s competition at the 9-hole Kigali Golf Club, in Nyarutarama.

Rwigema returned a 31 Net, overcame a stiff competition from Jenny Linda (30) and Jovia

Tugume (29) finished in second and third position, respectively, to reclaim the title.

Dews led by two strokes when he returned a 42 Net, ahead of Francis Njoga, who struck 40 Net, while Johnson Kangethe returned 39 Net on the course to finish in third position.

The competition mode of play was Stableford tee off for all the hand-cap categories, where points are determined by golfers’ score on the hole.

Stephen Katwiremu managed to finish at the top in the men’s senior category after returning 31, Frank Mustafa finished second when he shot 30 Net while second runner-up Chikara Virenda fired 29 Net.

Linda, first runner-up in the ladies category, also made the longest drive and the nearest to the Pin, while Katwiremu recorded the longest drive in men’s seniors fray.

In Group III hand-cap 19-28, Keith Bunyenyezi finished as the best after returning 36 Net, one stroke better than Juma Ngali in second place while Sky Koo finished third with 34 Net.

Andrew Kulayige, the Kigali Golf Club Vice President, was awarded for winning the hand-cap 10-18 after firing a 31. Emmanuel Hategeka finished as runner-up with a 30, a stroke ahead of third-placed Roger Bayingana.

In Group I hand-cap 0-9, Eugene Murenjekha topped the score board with 31 Net, while Innocent Ratuma and Anthon Olwit finished second and third, respectively – both level at 31.

Paul Ntaganda recorded the longest drive, while the nearest to the Pin record was made by Koo. PIGA Ming record was made by Rajiv Gupta.

Gurmit Santokh, a partner with event sponsors PKF, thanked the golfers and Kigali Golf Club for making this year’s event a success and promised that they will continue to support the event.

On behalf of Kigali Golf Club, captain Dr Davis Kashaka appreciated PKF for their consistency in supporting the development of golf in Rwanda.

Speaking to Times Sport after the event, Kashaka said:  "This marks the end of the 2018 season.” He said 2019 will be another busy year, which will start with VW Golf Competition in January.
