Kigali City Council has warned that indisciplined students will not be treated with kid gloves. The warning was sounded by KCC inspector of schools Gerald Rutari ,who said that some strikes in schools are not justified.

Rutari cited the recent strike in Martyrs Secondary School which paralyzed activities at the school for days immediately after the commencement of this Academic Year.

The strike at the school run by the Anglican Church was triggered by the expulsion by school authorities of some teachers who were accused of absconding from duty without justified reasons. 

"How can students reject teachers given to them? Students must be serious or else we shall dismiss them too,” Rutari warned and urged school heads to instill discipline in their students. He said the students should only complain when the teachers are not delivering.

Steven Ndyabagye, one of the sacked teachers complained that the school administration exaggerated the report it sent to the board.

In the report, the school administration said Ndyabagye had missed 129 lessons during the last academic year without justification.

"I wrote a letter requesting for a leave. Days after, it shocked me to hear I had been replaced,” Ndyabagye complained.

The Headmaster of the school, Godfrey Nyirimpeta, had earlier said that the school board decided to dismiss History, Geography and Economics teachers for insubordination and dodging classes.

"We went through proper channels in accordance with the school regulations to sack these teachers,” Nyirimpeta added.
