Rwanda international Patrick Kavalo Akumuntu has left the country for professional trials with Jordan first division side All Awdeh Youth Club, Times Sport has learned.

The Gisagara Volleyball Club’s left-attacker departed on Tuesday and is set to train with the Jordanian side for one month after which he will be assessed and then sign a contract if successful.

The 26-year-old rejoined Gisagara in October from UTB and has since been one of the club’s influential players, leading them to the summit of the league table at halfway mark.

Akumuntu officially started his senior volleyball career with UR- CoE (formerly KIE) in 2010 and played there for two seasons before crossing to UNIK, featuring for the Ngoma-based side till 2014 when he switched to Lycee de Nyanza.

He rejoined UNIK early 2015, this time helping them to two consecutive league titles in 2015 and 2016 before moving to Gisagara for the 2016/2017 season, where he inspired the then newly formed club to their maiden league title.

The hard-hitting spiker then moved to UTB and helped them to the third place in the men’s top tier league and as well as the Carre d’As tournament, which were both claimed by heavyweights Gisagara.

The soft-spoken left-attacker rejoined Gisagara in October.

Should he pass the trials, Akumuntu will become the third Rwandan to be signed by All Awdeh Youth Club after Placide Sibomana and Yves Mutabazi.
