For the first time this season, champions Gisagara have taken the lead spot in the national volleyball league after registering easy victories against IPRC- West and APR at Gisagara Gymnasium on Saturday.

The two-time reigning champions won both games in straight sets (3-0) to finish the league’s first-half leading with 15 points, one ahead of second-placed UTB and second-placed REG.

"We are happy to go into the league’s half-time break when we are leading, my players did great today. We will be seeking to keep the momentum when we resume the chase in January 2019,” said Dominique Ntawangundi, Gisagara head coach.

REG also won their two games of the weekend, first overcoming IPRC- East in a hard-fought five-set (3-2) thriller before easing past bottom side Kirehe in four (3-1) sets.

Also for the first time, a top tier league side – Kirehe – has finished the first half of the championship without picking a single point.

The 2017 Carre d’As title winners are winless in their last six games.
