Rwanda’s renowned professional golfer Emmanuel Ruterana is confident his contract with Rwanda Commercial Bank (BCR) will be renewed.

The 26-year-old ran out of contract at the end of last year and is keen to renew it.

The golfer traveled to Uganda yesterday for the lucrative MTN monthly mug and is expected to dig deep into his pockets for the first time since turning pro two years ago.

"I have to foot all my expenses in Uganda so it’s a bit different now. I’m hoping that my contract issues are sorted out soon,” the 2007 Uganda Open pro champion confessed.

"They (BCR) have been good to me. I wouldn’t have gone this far without them. I have a few tournaments right at the corner so once they are out of the way, I will meet with BCR and reach a decision,” he said.

"Right now, it’s hard to say how things will turn out but a clear picture will emerge in the next two-three weeks,” he added.

Although BCR’s marketing manager Vivian Kayitesi did not want to commit herself, she conceded that the bank’s support to Ruterana has been worthwhile.

"He is an excellent golfer and we thought it was a good idea to support him. There is no doubt that he got very good exposure,” she said.

Rwanda currently boasts of two professional golfers; the other being Jean Baptist Hakizimana who won last year’s Uganda Open professional category.

Hakizimana, who joined the paid ranks last July, is under contract with MTN Rwanda, one of the country’s leading Telecommunication giants.
