APR Vs Club Africain 15:30

APR will be looking to bank on their blistering start into the 2018-19 Azam Rwanda Premier League as the military side host Tunisia’s Club Africain in the first-leg of CAF Champions League’s preliminary round at Kigali Stadium on Wednesday.

The game gets underway at 3:30 pm.

APR, who were drawn against the Tunisian giants earlier this month, will be hoping for a big win at home before traveling to Tunisia for the decisive game next week.

The club’s best campaign in Africa’s premier club competition was during the 2004 season when they reached the third round under the stewardship of late Jean Marie Ntagwabira.

Since then, the country’s most successful club have faltered in the continent’s elite competition.

However, head coach Jimmy Mulisa is confident his team can capitalise on the home advantage this time around.

"We are confident of making the most of home advantage, but, most importantly, we are determined to work for a big win. Thankfully, we are well aware of the challenge at hand and we have prepared accordingly,” said Mulisa.

He insisted on the fact that, his squad "is a group of players who are able to lead the club to the group stages of the club competition, where no Rwandan club has ever reached.”

APR lost 6-2 to Club Africain in the preliminary round of the same competition in 2011, the two sides having played out a 2-all draw in Kigali before APR endured a 4-0 heavy return-leg defeat in Tunisia.

APR have enjoyed a good start to the new domestic season, winning each of their opening five league games and will be looking to replicate that form in continental campaign.

Club Africain – thirteen-time Tunisian champions – will host the return-leg clash between the two sides at the 60,000-seater Stade Olympique de Radès next week on Wednesday.
