Rwanda on Monday launched Nationally Determined Contribution Partnership Plan that seeks to guide the country's implementation of its commitments to the Paris Agreement on climate change.
The plan will guide the country to deliver its commitments to the Paris Agreement by fast-tracking climate mitigation and adaptation, according to Environment Minister Vincent Biruta.
He was speaking at the launch of the inaugural Africa Green Growth Forum that opened on Monday in Kigali, capital city of Rwanda.
The plan, jointly developed by the government of Rwanda and Partnership Secretariat of Nationally Determined Contribution, will reinforce the country's capacity to realize its climate action goals, he said.
Nationally Determined Contribution Partnership is a global coalition of countries and institutions working to mobilize support and achieve ambitious climate goals while enhancing sustainable development.
Since Rwanda ratified the Paris Agreement in 2016, a number of climate change mitigation measures have been taken in the country, including the establishment of Rwanda's Fund for the Environment and Climate Change (FONERWA), said the minister.
The plan takes ongoing climate change action programs and policies into account and identifies priorities towards combating climate change.
The priority areas set by the Rwandan government in the plan include strengthening financing of projects that help reduce emissions; enhancing the country's resilience against the effects of climate change; fast-tracking progress towards green industry and services, sustainable land use and water resource management, disaster risk management, and improved health that enhances social protection safety net against vulnerability to climate change.
The forum has attracted more than 1,000 participants, including government officials, climate change experts, environmentalists, investors, representatives from the private sector, development partners and civil society organizations, to share experiences in green growth and climate resilient development.
