NGOMA — Ngoma district registered the best performance in last year’s Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) and Ordinary level, within the eastern province.
In the 2008 PLE results released last week, the district’s performance improved by 47.1% from 21.4% in 2007 to 68.5% in 2008. Of the 3,636 pupils who sat for the exams, 2,489 representing 68.5% passed.
The four best schools secured 100 percent average. They are Gashanda, Les Hondelles, ASPEK and Sholi. These were closely followed by Kibimba Primary School which scored 96.4%.
The best four pupils, all scored an average of three points. They are Jean Nduruhirwe of EP Kirwa, Chanson Mugisha of EP Sangaza, Iryumugaba Ndikubwimana of Les Hondelles and Jean-Paul Muhire of Zaza A.
In O’Level, the district’s general performance rose by 50.6% from 26.5 percent in 2007 to 77.7 percent in 2008.
The best school is Lycee De Zaza, all the 93 candidates who sat for the exams passed. Petit Seminaire Zaza and ES Sake became the second and third.
The best student is Muhamed Djamada Kagusu of GS Kabare. He is also the 12th best student in Chemistry countrywide with 91 marks.
Jean Bertrand, of Petit Seminaire Zaza, the 29th student in Mathematics nationally with 92 marks became the second overall in the district while Augusten Nicolas Shyaka of the same school emerged the third overall.
Despite their improved performance in 2008 compared to 2007, however, ESM Secondary again trailed other schools in the district.
Of the 46 students who sat for the exams, only 15 representing 32.6 percent passed. In the 2007 exams, all the 67 students who sat for their exams failed.
