Rwanda Energy Group (REG) volleyball club overcame University of Tourism Technology and Business Studies (UTB) to get off to a winning start in the 2018/2019 league season on Saturday.
REG won the game in four sets (27-25, 23-25, 25-19 and 25-23) at Amahoro indoor stadium to stretch their dominance over the varsity side since last season.
UTB have not beaten REG in their last eight meetings in all competitions.
Elsewhere, on Saturday, defending champions Gisagara also edged IPRC-East in four sets; 19-25, 25-16, 26-24 and 25-14, while IPRC-West beat Kirehe by a similar score-line.
Prior to losing the REG clash in the afternoon, Fidele Nyirimana’s UTB had defeated former champions APR 3-1 (25-15, 21-25, 25-21 and 25-21) in the league opener in the morning.
REG will face APR on match-day 2 on November 17, while Gisagara will be up against Kirehe. Both games will be played at Amahoro Stadium.
