Ruhango district set to lead in 2009 performance targets

RUHANGO — The Mayor of Ruhango has vowed to beat other districts in the Province in the implementation of performance targets after the first evaluation this year.

Céléstin Twagirumukiza, said this while addressing reporters at the district offices recently.

Ruhango is ranked fourth after Nyamagabe, Gisagara and Nyaruguru district according to the provincial evaluation of the 2008 performance contracts.

Twagirumukiza explained that they will start by addressing the 2009 top priorities key among which is to rally residents towards work. He said that the past hindrances of water scarcity and lack of power in the province have been solved.

"Our target is to open up increased  economic development activities and this will be attained by changing the mentality of residents towards hard work.Fighting corruption, genocide ideology and injustice as well as other vices will be fought,” he told the press.

The Mayor attributed underdevelopment and poor service provision in the area to a high population growth which had overstetched the scarce resources compared to other districts in the south.

On security, he said residents’ security was 100% guaranteed through community policing programmes.He added that the district was working towards addressing the rest of the challenges which it faced.

Earlier, district officials held a public Accountability Day during which residents were able to ask various questions regarding revenue expenditure .
