Sunday
Rayon 3-0 Gicumbi Bugesera 1-1 Sunrise
New signing Michael Sarpong produced a stunning first-half performance to inspire Rayon Sports to a 3-0 victory over Gicumbi on Sunday as they cut the gap with table leaders, APR and Mukura, to three points.
The Ghanaian striker put the hosts ahead as early as in the third minute after a fine assist from Eric ‘Radu’ Iradukunda before completing his double seconds before the break following a mazy run from midfielder Olivier ‘Sefu’ Niyonzima.
Manishimwe had earlier netted the second goal from a brilliant free-kick in the 25th minute.
Gicumbi have not beaten Rayon Sports since 2015, then under Emmanuel Ruremesha who was voted as the Coach of the Year 2018 last month.
Roberto Oliveira’s Rayon are fourth on the table with 9 points from four Azam Rwanda Premier League games. Defending champions, APR, and Peace Cup holders, Mukura, are joint leaders with a maximum 12 points, each, while Police are in third position with 9 points.
The law enforcers rank ahead of the Blues courtesy of a better goal difference (5) compared to Rayon Sports’ 4.
Elsewhere on Sunday, Bugesera and Sunrise played out a 1-all draw at Nyamata grounds.
