R&B sensation Meddy is currently in the middle of a world tour that will wind up in Kigali, Rwanda on New Year’s Day, 2019.
The ‘Slowly’ hitmaker kicked off the tour last month, with two well attended concerts in the UK. The first concert on September 22 took place at the Grand Occasions Banqueting Hall in Birmingham, while the second show was held on September 29, at the Palm Tree Banqueting Hall, in London.
The singer’s next stop is Nairobi, Kenya, where he is slated to perform this Saturday October 27. Dubbed, ‘Rwanda Beauty Night Second Edition’, the concert will take place at the B-Club, in Nairobi.
‘Rwanda Beauty Night’ is a monthly theme night that was recently introduced by the club, to answer to a growing thirst for Rwandan music in Kenya. The first edition last month featured a performance by local girl duo, Charly na Nina, who were accompanied by Kigali socialite Shady Boo, among others.
Like his two UK performances, it will be the first time Meddy performs in Kenya.
After Kenya, Meddy will head to Ottawa, Canada, for a performance on December 21, before returning close to home in Bujumbura, Burundi where he will perform on December 29.
He will conclude the tour with a mega concert in Kigali on January 01 2019.
"We had a lot of requests from promoters and fans in different parts of the world and we decided to do a tour to be able to find fans where they are,” says Bruce Ntwari, the singer’s local booking agent.
However, the singer’s management team is still working on securing two more shows — one in Uganda and another in Tanzania before the close of December.
Best known for his smooth R&B love ballads, Meddy has recently established himself among the cream of East Africa’s R&B crooners.
Some of his most sought after hits include ‘Lose control’, ‘Burinde bucya’, ‘Ntawamusimbura’, ‘Holy Spirit’, ‘Nasara’, ‘Slowly’, and ‘Adi top’.
Released in August last year, ‘Slowly’ is Meddy’s biggest hit to date, with the song’s video clip boasting a record-setting 6.6 million YouTube views at the moment.
A multitalented artiste and instrumentalist, Meddy’s strategic move to blend English and his native Kinyarwanda in his later songs is credited for his fast-rising star on the regional and global music scenes.
His easy sing-along lyrics have made his fans to take to social media to post videos of their selves singing and dancing to Meddy’s music. His songs are among the most played Rwandan songs on music streaming site, Spotify.
Meddy is currently based in the US, where he moved in 2010. Since then, his music career has taken a turn for the better, winning him audiences from far and wide.
