Joan Uwase Kalimba, a 14-year old former student of FAWE Girls’ School was the best at her school and the third best country-wide in O’level results with seven aggregates.
She was also the best girl country-wide according to the results released last week.

Uwase now hopes to become an engineer after successfully excelling in Biology Chemistry and Mathematics in high school.

When she stormed The New Times offices on Friday in the company of her brother, Uwase was visibly overjoyed having overcome the fear and panic that characterized her life moments before the exams.

"I was afraid because the exams were not easy. I was surprised because I expected to pass but not with those grades,” Uwase said with marvel and awe conspicuously written all over her face.

In order to pass, the young and ambitious Uwase worked so hard, consulted friends and teachers, her parents and the efforts have effectively paid off.

According to her, it is possible to achieve anything with God and hard work, including success in examinations.

Uwase remembers that apart from singing and watching movies, friends always complained that she was too quite and reserved yet this did not deter her determination to emerge the best.
